About DocuClub

DocuClub is a film screening series of works-in-progress documentaries. Each month, a filmmaker presents a rough cut of her film. Afterwards, a moderator facilitates a discussion between filmmaker and audience. Constructive feedback from these sessions informs the finished film. Past films that have been screened at DocuClub include Academy Award-winner Born Into Brothels, SILVERDOCS Audience Award-winner The Boys of Baraka, Independent Spirit Award-winner Metallica: Some Kind of Monster.

DocuClub began in 1994 to serve the robust documentary film community in New York City by creating a space for filmmakers to share works-in-progress and for others to watch and comment on that work. In previous years DocuClub’s selections have screened at IFC Center, Makor and at the Museum of Modern Art. DocuClub has also traveled to film festivals around the country delivering similar works-in-progress workshops nationwide at SILVERDOCS, Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, DOCS DF in Mexico City and others. The atmosphere is friendly with an emphasis on helping the filmmaker and offering encouragement.

Submission to DocuClub is open to members only. For films not selected for a screening, we offer the chance for written critique given by a veteran filmmaker who volunteers to view the film and offer advice. Members have access to many online resources including a monthly newsletter of programs. DocuClub primarily serves the five boroughs of New York City.
