Election Day‘s Rashida Tlaib wins a seat in Michigan’s state legislature
In 2004, Rashida Tlaib was turning out the vote in her Michigan community. For Election Day, we followed her as she took her husband to vote for the first time, broke fast with her family and watched the returns that night. A lot has happened in four years.
This Election Day, voters in SW Detroit found Rashida’s name on the ballot. At the end of the night, she emerged the winner in the State Representative race for Detroit’s 12th District, becoming Michigan’s first Muslim woman in the state legislature (only the second Muslim woman nationwide to serve in this capacity). Congratulations, Rashida!
