Blizzard prepardness
As the news of a monumental blizzard in New York City were greatly exaggerated (in my humble opinion), I didn’t prepare for it by stockpiling gallons of water and cans of pork-and-beans. Instead, I considered with what type of brain food I would be happy. First on my list is always a documentary. And what a story did Mugabe and the White African tells!
Released in 2009 and shortlisted for an Academy Award that year, the documentary recounts the court fight between Mike Campbell, a white African farmer in Zimbabwe, struggling to retain his land after that nation’s leader, Robert Mugabe, implemented a law to strip white landowners of their territory. If only redistribution of power were that easy. But these things are always messy; Mugabe favored his cronies as the recipients of these lands, and not his poor countrymen. The result was that Zimbabwe went from a self-sustaining country to one enveloped in economic and political chaos.
The film is suspenseful, and features unforgettable characters. is there another blizzard coming soon? What are you doing to prepare?
