Celebrate World Tai Chi and Qigong Day
Today is World Tai Chi and Qigong Day and what better way to celebrate than with a film that explores both? Last year, Arts Engine released one of our earlier films, Journey to the West: Chinese Medicine Today, on DVD for the first time. Journey to the West explores the roots of traditional Chinese medicine, its incarnation in modern-day China and its adaptation in the United States. Some of my favorite scenes from the film are montages of people in the streets and squares of Shanghai practicing Tai Chi, their slow movements cutting through the hustle of the city.

Master Wu, who happens to be an 18th generation lineage holder of the Mt. Wudang Dragon Gate style of Qigong. He has devoted his life to the study of Qigong, martial arts, Chinese medicine, Yijing science, Chinese calligraphy, and ancient Chinese music. Since we shot the film, Master Wu has moved to the U.S. and travels around the country offering workshops in Qigong and other ancient Chinese arts. Last month, I had a chance to meet him in person while he was leading workshops in Florida. I just found this review of his latest book and it reminded me of my calm morning tea with him:
Though scholarly, the tone of his work is personal rather than academic. His is a conversation over tea. Your chance to casually sit with a man of genuine ability and share his experience.
So, give your Qi a little TLC and find an event near you here.
