Cinematic synchronicity
This weekend is full of pride for DocuClub as two of the films we showed in their rough cut stage are having their theatrical debut in New York City: Augusta Palmer’s The Hand of Fatima (which DocuClub screened in January 2009) and William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe by Sarah and Emily Kunstler (featured in October 2008).
Palmer’s film focuses on her father, renowned Rolling Stone rock critic Robert Palmer, and especially his relationship to the Moroccan Master Musicians of Jajouka. Similarly, the Kunstler sisters point their lens at the life and work of their father, controversial civil rights attorney William Kunstler.
What to make of the fact that two documentaries about male public figures, directed by their daughters, are being released on the same day? Coincidence? Odd synchronicity? No matter—go see them and support these fantastic works.
