For Rogue Filmmakers Only
I’ve been noting with interest a small wave of filmmakers who are crafting their own crash courses in filmmaking for the uninitiated. But never in million years would I imagine that Werner Herzog would jump on the bandwagon. I’m going to start saving my pennies now (Herzog’s Rogue Film School comes with a $1450 price tag for one weekend!)
I love how the description of what is essentially his weekend film retreat is delivered with manifesto-like conviction:
The Rogue Film School is not for the faint-hearted; it is for those who have travelled on foot, who have worked as bouncers in sex clubs or as wardens in a lunatic asylum, for those who are willing to learn about lock-picking or forging shooting permits in countries not favoring their projects…In short: it is for those who have a sense for poetry. For those who are pilgrims. For those who can tell a story to four-year-old children and hold their attention. For those who have a fire burning within. For those who have a dream.

I have a dream too, that one day we will all be able to afford such a ridiculous school. And when that day comes, we can all stand before Mr. Herzog and say - we don’t need your lousy rogue school - we’d rather throw our hard earned money away investing in pyramid schemes.

LOVE the Rogue Film School concept! Even though it’s pricey—if you learn enough to be dangerous, you can take your million-dollar ideas and make it happen and that’s priceless…
