Greening of the American Hard Hat
In honor of Earth Day (or rather Earth Month), I thought I would post an op-ed from The New York Times by the makers of King Corn. (How cool is the idea of a video op-ed! As someone who expresses herself better through images, I am excited to see more of these.)
This piece, which features footage from their latest film, The Greening of Southie, urges the government to better educate people about the green movement. Sure, we can put stimulus money into creating green jobs but we need to better educate people about what green jobs even are.
Watching this op-ed, I felt a kinship with the Boston construction workers in terms of their initial green skepticism. For a long while I had no idea what a green building even was and I am still not 100% sure what are the exact elements needed to make a building truly green. There is a lot to learn but pieces like these help bridge the gap.
So Happy Earth Day ... Month ... Era!
