Recycl-a-babble
A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine went to a science barge on the Hudson River and discovered some amazing ways of sustainable living with very little water and no soil. Not only was it an educational, eye opening, experience for her, she also learned that not all plastics can be recycled by a standard recycling program and that some need to be broken down in other ways. Apparently there are numbers on the bottom of recycling products called the Resin Identification Code and only numbers 1 & 2 can be recycled - 3, 4 & 5 cannot. Did you know that? I for sure didn’t. I decided to ask a sample of people (my friends) and this was news to them as well. If we’re not properly informed on this issue, how can we embrace it? Why don’t they [the government] put up advertisements with a simple message that describes what type of plastics can be recycled.
