Shooting Poverty!
Arts Engine—via its various programs (Media That Matters, DocuClub, etc.)—has been a champion of new filmmakers. Next week, we are excited to co-present a film screening of “Shooting Poverty” finalists, in New York City.
Sponsored by international organization Oxfam, “Shooting Poverty” is a film competition created to expose the negative impact of guns and armed violence in poor communities.
The contest is a vehicle for young independent filmmakers and is in its final stage of competition. A winner will be announced in February 2011.
Meanwhile, we hope audiences interested in supporting media for social justice will join us to get a preview of the work of these amazing filmmakers on Tuesday, October 26, at 7 p.m., at the Tribeca Cinemas. We will be watching three short films by filmmakers from India, Brazil and Burundi. The filmmakers will be present for an informative post-screening Q&A (which I’ll be moderating!) and a networking reception.
