Film Description
Through work with GEMS (Girls Educational Mentoring Service), Urban Voices TV shares the stories of young women, previously sexually exploited and coerced into prostitution as teenagers, describing ethe lifei and the struggle to get out. This video, emotionally devastating, critically assured, and sensitive to the individuals represented, is a deep look into the issues of love and trust, the multiple concepts of family, and what it takes to survive and find safety in a confusing world. Mixing interviews, creatively staged dramatic re-enactments, and experimental imagery, A Mile Walked guides the viewer through this complex issue of culture, gender, and society with grace, intelligence, and depth.
