Film Description
This journey began from our pain/ uneasiness at the fact that death of 15 farmers in Nandigram had to happen before the country to know about SEZ. But even after the incident, and the numerous debates followed, the common citizens remain unaware of the widespread impact it is going to have on the daily living of each one of us, let alone the macro changes in the socio-economic spheres. And every piece of information coming out regarding SEZ only seemed to complicate the understanding. We couldn’t just sit and watch the fun when some experts praise it, some farmers along with social activists cry foul play and the ‘aam admi’ wondering which side to look.. So we set out to know the real faces behind the news items. As a group sensitive to the social responsibility of media, SEZ appeared as the immediate issue to be taken up, as our initial task. We tried to capture the issue from the direct sources- the communities directly affected by the policy, the policy makers, the corporate sector banking on the policy and the concerned social activists. This is the story seen by the eyes of the camera.. without any colours added.. but our efforts to bring in all the stakeholders couldn’t succeed due to the cold shoulder shown by some of them, including the representatives of corporates and govt.
Our journey covered the Special Economic Zones of MUNDRA In Gujarat and PEN in Maharashtra. The communities which come under the zones have been kind enough to share with us their fears and hopes and needs.. And we have tried to reach out to a number of families who are apparently affected differently by SEZ.. and also the community leaders who have varied points of view.
