Film Description

eBalancei is a 2-minute documentary exploring the conflicts between Native American traditions and the modern world. The film explores rediscovering oneis heritage and how to keep true to oneis roots. A dialogue takes place over the visuals of a Pow-Wow. The audio is taken from my conversations with Native Americans teenagers and adults living in urban and rural settings. They each address particular concerns of maintaining their heritage. This film was filmed on location in Minnesota on Red Lake Reservation, Cass Lake Reservation, and at the 4-Corners Charter School in Minneapolis/St. Paul. As a Mexican American boy from Texas, it was surprising to see how similar my issues of roots and heritage were to the new friends I met and documented in Minnesota.
