Film Description

“Conversations with the Living: Globalization and the Haitian AIDS Crisis” is a documentary that explores the AIDS crisis in Haiti and places the prevalence of the disease within the context of the country’s historical exploitation at the hands of foreign powers.

“Conversations with the Living” will directly address the damage done to the Haitian health care system by years of harmful, if not hostile, foreign policy aimed at chastising and controlling Haiti’s government. Moreover, it will starkly show the causal chain linking world events and the daily life of HIV-positive Haitians. Most importantly, it will place the various unwieldy issues in context by personalizing them through the characters in the documentary, while focusing on the positive strides that have been made in recent years and the vibrant culture that gives everyday Haitians strength in the face of daunting conditions.
