To rise up the summits of the Cumbal volcano to extract de ice and sulphur and then carry it to the near town to sell it, it is the arduos work of Mr Segundo Homero, one of the few “nieveros” that still keep working in the Cumbal volcano. He and his family have devoted themselves traditionally to this trade, but the work at the volcano is hardest every day and worse payment. The possibilities of economic subsistence skimp and the children grow and look for other courses, Cumbal, paths of ice and sulphur is a documentary about the way that they assume the world that they have to live, their conceptions of what is important, about the effort, the work, the danger, their ideas of beautiful and sacred and especially their relation of love and hatred with the volcano.
