Film Description

Empire in the Andes: The War Against the Poor looks at the relationship of increasing US military presence in Latin America to the planned Free Trade Area of the Americas.  Millions live in poverty in the Andean region and US policies are failing miserably to address their problems. But despite human rights abuses and free trade, local people are fighting to build lasting peace.

With interviews with Latin American activists and analysts from Colombia, Ecuador and the US, original footage and Colombian hip hop, this documentary looks at what is going on behind the headlines about drug lords and cocaine.
