Film Description

Despite a booming economy, millions of Americans are still considered “unbankable. But across the country, there's a new breed of grass roots banker willing to take the risk. Faith, Hope and Capital explores the potental of these organizations that are proving that loans, rather than charity, can be an effective tool for fighting poverty and building healthy communities.
This documentary travels across America, introducing viewers to people like Jack Billman, a displaced logger in the Pacific Northwest; Terrell Cannon, a former welfare mother in Philadelphia; Rev. Elister Charleston, a farmer in Alabama; Dale Braithwaite, an apartment owner in Chicago; and Lendall Alexander, a fisherman on the coast of Maine.  Conventional banks laughed at these people, but with capital and technical assistance from community development banks, loan funds and credit unions they are starting businesses, buying homes, and reclaiming neighborhoods.
