Film Description

Legally Blind is a half-hour verite documentary following two years in the life of the filmmaker’s aunt, Maria, a legally blind, Colombian immigrant who lost her government sponsored vending stand as a result of the 9/11 attacks. Nothing could’ve prepared this vivacious sixty-something for the impact of being suddenly unemployed. The stand wasn’t merely a source of income, it was what gave meaning and purpose to her life. But, when two years into her forced vacation, Maria gets an emergency eye surgery that takes away her remaining vision, she begins to question what really matters in life. Legally Blind is an emotional story of survival that captures how perseverance, along with a relentless spirit, can triumph over the sometimes ruthlessness of life.
