Film Description

Mozambique is potentially one of the most naturally fertile countries in Africa. But today, it is in the news because of famine, refugees, and violence. Once a proudly independent country committed to socialist ideals, Mozambique has been brought to its knees by a combination of external aggression
and inappropriate economic policies imposed by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The people are suffering from years of conflict that have displaced millions of people, undermined the economic infrastructure, and minimized the government's previous successes in health care
and education. Long-term development plans have been at a stand-still for many years. Day-to-day survival is uppermost in people's minds.

Other titles in THE THIRD WORLD DEVELOPMENT
SERIES include: TOWARDS A BETTER LIFE?, OUT OF
DEVELOPMENT, I USED TO WORK IN THE FIELDS,
THE POVERTY COMPLEX, GENDER MATTERS,
LESSONS FROM KERALA, THE CUTTING EDGE OF
PROGRESS, A VULNERABLE LIFE
