The story of the struggle to protect the Ayuquila River in western Mexico that explores the central question of environmental justice as poor downstream communities suffer from the pollution generated from the richer upstream communities.

Local scientists arrive on the scene with the designation of a local biosphere and work with the local communities, politicians and government officials to tackle pollution problems from a sugar mill.
