Film Description

The Monster Among Us is Media Projects’ latest film about the alarming rise of anti-Semitism in Europe.

The film includes excerpts from almost 200 hours of footage shot in Germany, Hungary, France, England, Holland and Belgium.

Anti-Semitism has surfaced on university campuses, in the media, on the streets, on the Internet, at political demonstrations and in seemingly innocent social situations.

The Monster Among Us examines this wave of anti-Semitism against European Jews and their institutions, mainly from the point of view of those who have directly experienced the violence or live every day with the threat.

IAfter a recent screening in New York, CUNY & Brooklyn College professor Charles Stone wrote:
“Watch The Monster Among Us, and then, when the first European pogrom [holocaust] of the 21st century happens, you will not be able to say that you are shocked.  You will be outraged and saddened and scared, and we can scream ‘never again!’, but you will not be able to claim you are shocked. The directors bring you face to face, and face to mask, with the victims and demons of modern anti-Semitism in Europe.”

In the six months since its world premiere at the 2008 AFIDallas International Film Festival, The Monster Among Us has gained recognition among experts on anti-Semitism for the powerful way that it expands public awareness about the global issue of anti-Semitism.  The film recounts the experiences of Jews from all walks of life, in six different European countries, who tell of the anti-Semitism that has surfaced on campuses, the streets, in the media, on the internet, and in seemingly innocent social situations. Sixty years after the Holocaust, a new brand of anti-Semitism has reared its ugly head in Europe. It has the same purpose, but it wears a different face.

Screened at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. in July 2008, the film was part of the national research workshop, “Studying Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century: Manifestations, Implications, Consequences”.

Significantly, The Monster Among Us will screen at the European Parliament this November in Brussels and is an official selection at the upcoming Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival in Florida and at the Hartford Jewish Film Festival in Connecticut.
