Film Description

17-year-old Napoleon Beazley was a successful student, athlete, and class president. Growing up in Grapeland, Texas, a small, racially-divided community, Napoleon struggled to find his identity—he didn’t fit the stereotype of a young black male.

In April 1994, Napoleon and his two friends drove two hours to Tyler, Texas, to steal a car. During the carjacking, Napoleon inexplicably murdered John Luttig and attempted to shoot Luttig’s wife.

This shocking story is depicted through Napoleon’s words and interviews with those involved with and affected by the murder. Set against the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s 2005 review of the juvenile death penalty, Two Hours to Tyler offers a compelling look at youth, murder, racial identity, and whether an honor-roll student turned killer should die for his crime.
