Film Description

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is a federally funded program and New York City hosts the largest one in the country with 49,000 participants in 1999. In May of 1998 a study revealed that Fortune 100 companies felt that a large percentage of New York City high school graduates lacked the academic and social skills to thrive in the work world. However, through summer employment programs such as SYEP, young people learn computer and business skills that can be transferred into corporate settings for the 21st century. An HBO Human Resources executive provides a testimonial to validate the instrumental role that corporate America plays by investing in youth who symvbolize America's future workforce.
