Film Description
The movie AMERICAN DREAM starring Danny Glover, Howard Zinn and others is a documentary comedy about an everyday man who realizes that his financial success and his accumulation of material things are not making him happy. He decides to sell most of what he owns in order to make a film about the over consumption and lack of sense of purpose that mark today’s vision of success. Through his journey, we will find out what has happened to the American society and to the original American Dream after the arrival of industrialization, advertisement and mass-consumption.
The film combines narrative and documentary storytelling. The narrative ‘reality TV-style’ part of the film revolves around the adventures
of the main character, with whom the audience is encouraged to relate. The film thus offers a critical view of over-consumptive lifestyles, yet
being careful not to alienate the viewers who, like most of us, also live and operate in a consumeristic society.
