Film Description

In December 1969, following the success of Woodstock, The Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane played a free concert in Oakland, California.  When over 300,000 people showed up, the security around the stage took violent action.  At least one person was killed as these Hell’s Angels battered the audience members with everything from pool cues to knives.  Gimme Shelter uses raw footage of the violence, including the band’s attempts to calm down their security and their audience, as well as footage of Mick Jagger and Company reliving the deadly action years after the fact.  Closeups of audience members’ faces show how quickly the scene turned from excitement to confusion to utter terror.
