Film Description

Twenty-one cities around the world, including Rosario, Argentina; Graz, Austria; and Korogocho, Kenya have made a commitment to run all social, political, economic and cultural aspects of city life according to human rights. The film documents the process in Thies, Senegal, and in Washington, D.C.

In cities that have made the commitment, a steering committee of all associations, individuals, institutes, NGO’s etc. who wish to participate is convened. The approach is to re-allocate city funding to areas where there are human rights violations so that eventually, issues such as housing and poverty are tackled through the human rights framework rather than through a political, economical or racial framework.  Pariticipating organizations for this film are the American Friends Service Committee (www.AFSC.org), Tostan (www.tostan.org), and the People’s Decade for Human Rights Learning (www.PDHRE.org). The film is narrated by Jean-Louis Peta Ikamabana, AFSC Area Director, Washington, D.C.
