Film Description

"Letters from Iran" is a moving account of an exile's return to his homeland. Through a series of letters written to friends in the U.S., filmmaker Nezam Manouchehri conveys the ambivalent and contradictory emotions evoked by his return, including loneliness and nostalgia for a vanished past. Hailed as "very powerful and timely" by BoxOffice magazine, "Letters from Iran" provides a glimpse at everyday life in present-day Tehran, and uncovers the political and social changes taking place.

More than two decades after the revolution, Iran is still a mystery to outsiders, including many expatriate Iranians. "Letters from Iran" is a testimony to the diversity and contradictions of this vast nation. Of special interest is the plight of women, including Manouchehri's wife, Norah, a painter who is forbidden to exhibit in Iranian galleries, and his daughter, forced to live abroad to pursue her education.
