Film Description

The future of American agriculture lies in California, one of the wealthiest and fastest growing states in the union. Inspired by the social revolution of the sixties, farmers, viticulturalists and restaurateurs have unleashed a revolution in food.

Rejecting pesticides and big machines, veteran farmers such as David Masumoto are embracing organic production. Restaurateurs such as California Cuisine pioneer, Alice Waters, insist on seasonally grown, organic ingredients. Migrant workers continue to push for their rights. Informative yet not preachy, cautious but hopeful, Ripe For Change presents southern California as the way that Western agriculture must go if it is to survive a future with fewer fossil fuels and more mouths to feed. -AT
