Film Description

The FANKANTA Way is a 26min TV documentary film that explores the issues surrounding family planning and socio-economic development in the West African State of The Gambia.

FANKANTA translates the objectives of the Gambian National Population Policy into a concept understandable at community level. It is an integrated approach at community level to sensitise about the cross cutting nature of population issues, putting the Gambian family at the center of socio-economic development. Through the promotion of a manageable family size FANKANTA encourages not only family and reproductive health, joint reproductive decision making, child education, gender equity and women's empowerment, but also community ownership and environmental protection. Thus it encourages inter-sectoral collaboration and ownership.
