Film Description
An early anthropology exhibit, The Hall of the Races of Mankind, was created for Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History by artist Malvina Hoffman, who traveled the world in 1931 to find models for "the living races of mankind." Some of her 104 bronze and stone life-sized portraits are still on exhibit, stimulating discussion of the concept of "race."
The film shows archival photos and an interview with the artist and a panel discussion by scientists and educators exploring biological and social concepts of race and the relationship between art and science.
