Film Description
This film chronicles the development, contributions, and systematic closure of Black hospitals in the United States through the lens of one institution: The Homer G. Phillips for Colored in St. Louis. It also provides insight as to the necessity for the birth of these facilities, their struggle for survival, and the lessons these institutions have for contemporary society. This documentary also provides an important historical perspective on the state of health care for African Americans prior to the era of integration.
This film is the result of the unwavering commitment and dedication of Producer and Co-Director Mukulla J. Godwin, who is also a registered nurse and her Co-Director Chike Nwoffiah and many other dedicated individuals pst and preent who were a part of the Homer G. Phillips experience. It is their hope that others will be mindful of the challenges faced by the Homer G. Phillips Hospital as they seek to sustain their institutions for the betterment of their communities.
