Film Description
How dangerous is architecture?
Unfinished Spaces, a feature documentary shot on Super 16mm film and digital video, explores the Cuban Revolution through its most significant architectural achievement, the Cuban National Art Schools, and the architects who designed them. Commissioned in 1961 by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, and designed on the grounds of a former Havana golf course, the schools were called "the most beautiful in the world." Yet, construction stopped, architects fled the country, and Cuba refocused its attention on other projects.
Castro and the Cuban government have recently rediscovered the importance of this modernist monument, and through interviews, location, and historical footage, viewers around the world will discover them too.
