Glossary

Categories on MediaRights's Web Site

There are two types of categories in the MediaRights film database: Main Categories, the general description that encompasses smaller categories that are NOT listed as a Subcategory, and Subcategories, or specific subjects.

If you select a Subcategory, you must select a Main Category. See our glossary listings for descriptions of the category names. All of the categories can be used in combination to refer to specific subject headings (e.g. Environmental Justice + Politics: Peace/War can be used to refer to documentaries about Nuclear Fallout).

Some Categories of Interest on the MediaRights Web site:

Human Rights: The belief that every person is born free and equal in dignity and rights, and that those rights include life, liberty, and security. The category in our film database concerns violations to human rights.

International: This category must be used with other category listings that describe the social issue with which the film deals and refers to the region that the film primarily concerns.

Media Issues: Misrepresentation (racial or otherwise) in the media, and the effects of media on cultures or communities.
