Assistant Professor—Social Documentation

The Department of Community Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position in Social Documentation with a focus on the intersections between the cultural work and politics of race, ethnicity immigration status, class, sexuality, and gender. The position will be effective July 1, 2004. The successful candidate must possess proficiencies related to one or more genres of social documentation and cultural expression such as theater, photography, sound production, museum and/or open space installations, and film and video production. We seek candidates from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds with expertise in the production and/or analysis of social documentation. An interdisciplinary department, we emphasizes field study with community-based social change organizations and welcome candidates with experience integrating their scholarly work with social change activism. Candidates are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level.
