Barnard Center for Research on Women: "Compliance Is Gendered: Transgender Identities and Social Welfare"
Talk by Dean Spade (BC'97), founder of the Sylvia Rivera Law Project which provides legal services to low-income transgender, intersex, and gender variant people. Dean Spade will present a feminist analysis of the welfare state's regulation of women's sexuality and gender by examining how people whose gender identity and expression transgress gender norms fare in the
current war on the poor.
