Considering the Legacy of Jean Rouch
Pioneering French documentary filmmaker Jean Rouch, who made several classic ethnographic films in Africa (Moi, Un Noir, Les Maitres Fous) died in a car crash in Niger, on February 18. In this film, Malian filmmaker and NYU Professor Diawara pioneers what he calls "reverse anthropology" - where the subjects of investigation study their former investigators.
