Valentina's Nightmare and Rwanda: The WeaponScreening and discussion, 5:30 p.m. Wechsler Theater
April 8, 2004
The Center for Social Media at American University is proud to participate in the worldwide awareness effort to make the Rwandan genocide part of public memory. Valentina's Nightmare looks back at the origins and the horrors of the 1994 massacre of 800,000 Tutsis by the Hutu majority in Rwanda and examines the country's struggle for justice and reconciliation in the aftermath of the bloody genocide.
Also, American University's Visiting Artist Bill Gentile, himself an award-winning foreign correspondent, presents Rwanda: The Weapon, with discussion on the use of
rape as a weapon of war.
Remembering Rwanda is presented in partnership with the WCL Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Center for Prevention of Genocide, Peacebuilding & Development Institute, Society for Peace and Conflict
Resolution, Student Organization for African Studies and the Office of the University Chaplain. If you would like a guide to planning your own event or lesson plan, get a free resource booklet at the link below.
