20,000 Leagues Under the Industry Film festival 2K4 Calling for Submissions!
From 20,000 Leagues Website:
Hello. We are 20,000 Leagues Under The Industry. Our festival began in 2000 at the defunct arts center Speak In Tongues on Cleveland's near West Side, planned to be a one-time event. The quick sellout and crowd excitement generated motivated us to return in 2001 at the Beachland Ballroom, and continues to drive us to serve people high-quality film from "the underground." We began 20K LUTIFF because we saw a need in Cleveland that had to be filled -- no one else was, or is, showing the type of work we screen. It is that simple: We have come to entertain you, and if in the end you find some enlightenment, good! We are committed to bringing our audience the type of work that compels us to create. We share these works with you; the audience plays a role in all we do. We are a D.I.Y. venture, and as a mainly two-person operation, cover a lot of ground. We will continue to expand our programming to include voices not heard in the mainstream. We will remain committed to providing work by and for everyone. We are part of the fabric of film festivals operating around the globe, defying mainstream distribution and style. We are bored to tears with what so-called popular media continues to pump out, with their only motivation to produce product. We are filmmakers. We are film viewers. We are just like you, looking to have some fun and see new work. We will not lose focus of our roots as 20K LUTIFF grows, continuing to find new venues to screen work and new audiences to entertain. After all, it's for the work; it's all about the work. Now go out and make your own movie! We may even show it...really.
XO -- Marcel DeJure & Matthew T.
