Reel Women Meeting on Making a Low-Budget Feature
LOCATION: Women & Their Work Gallery, 1710 Lavaca Street (next door to El Mercado Restaurant)
SPEAKER: KELLEY BAKER, "The Angry Filmmaker"
SUBJECT: "Making the Extremely Low Budget Feature"
In 2000, Kelley Baker set out to make a full length feature film for the sum of $1000. He failed miserably. His budget ballooned up to $4000, (he forgot he had to feed cast and crew), but when the dust finally settled he had completed THE GAS CAFE, a 90-minute DV feature. Along the way he set up a website, shot behind the scenes footage (for a documentary, not yet completed) and made the movie he wanted. What's wrong with this guy? Kelley will talk about the process from scripting through post production: how to get the very most with very limited resources, the right questions to ask to get free stuff and creating an atmosphere where people share your vision and put in very long hours for no money (and enjoy it!).
MEETINGS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO EVERYONE! COME EARLY FOR NETWORKING (and to help us set up!) Networking usually continues after the meeting at El Mercado.
