New York Asian American Int'l Film Festival
Women Make Movies teams up with the Asian American International Film Festival, July 16-24 at the Asia Society in New York City, bringing the perspectives of South Asian and Middle Eastern women to the mix with two films from our newly released Beyond the Veil collection. The WMM program on Saturday, July 17 at 5pm includes the New York premieres of two films. Afghanistan Unveiled, a powerful documentary shot by a team of young Afghan women journalists reveals the aftermath of Taliban rule and U.S. military campaign on the women of their country. Following is The Ladies' Room from Iranian filmmaker Mahnaz Afzali, which was shot entirely within the confines of a public washroom in a park in Tehran, revealing footage and stories that shatter Western preconceptions of Iranian women.
