WITNESS is Hiring: Archive and Sales Associate

Position Announcement: Archive and Sales Associate
WITNESS Media Archive
Date: March 4, 2005

WITNESS (www.witness.org) is seeking a highly-motivated, self-directed individual to co-ordinate video sales and distribution, and perform archive support functions, in its Brooklyn, New York headquarters. The primary focus of the position is administrative and clerical; however, candidates with a background or interest in archival work are encouraged to apply. Secondary responsibilities may involve cataloging, rights management, research, and production-related activities.

The WITNESS Media Archive is the repository for over 2000 hours of video in assorted formats representing original raw footage from human rights defenders around the world, as well as documentaries on a wide range of human rights issues. The Archive is committed to documenting, preserving, and providing access to this unique collection, as well as to providing ongoing production support for WITNESS documentary projects.

Under the direction of the Media Archive, WITNESS is expanding its video sales, distribution, and licensing operations, encompassing a marketing campaign, a new web site, and the first printed catalog of productions. The position therefore requires a high-energy, problem-solving, hands-on, creative, and flexible team player with an entrepreneurial bent. This is a challenging and deadline-driven but very supportive work environment.

WITNESS uses the power of video to open the eyes of the world to human rights abuses. By partnering with local organizations around the globe, WITNESS empowers human rights defenders to use video to shine a light on those most affected by human rights violations, and to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools of justice. Since its founding in 1992, WITNESS has partnered with groups in more than 60 countries, bringing often unseen images, untold stories and seldom heard voices to the attention of key decision makers, the media, and the general public -- catalyzing grassroots activism, political engagement, and lasting change.
