Screening of POPaganda, presented by The Onion
The Onion (America\'s Finest News Source) is thrilled to sponsor
special screening of Pedro Carvajal\'s hilarious and rambunctious feature documentary \"POPaganda: The Art & Crimes of Ron English\".
Screening time:
Thursday, August 25th, 2005 @ 8:00 pm at the Anthology Film Archives=20
(32 Second Avenue at Second Street).
Synopsis:
Popaganda is a priceless documentary on Ron English, father of Agitpop and a genuine illegal artist. Blessed with a subversive wit, English takes his art to the billboards of America, replacing existing advertisements with his own political and pop-cultural parodies. While English\'s name might not be instantly recognizable to everyone, you almost certainly familiar with his imagery. One example of many: English designed the morbidly obese Ronald McDonald art so memorably featured in Super Size Me. Shot, fittingly, guerilla-style, Pedro Carvajal\'s documentary covers all phases of English\'s eccentric, ongoing career.
Infused with Ron\'s infectious passion, THE ART & CRIMES OF RON ENGLISH is an engaging thrill ride into the life and art of the billboard bandit that will inspire and activate.
Then come celebrate with the filmmaker, free beer provided by the Onion, at a near by dive bar in the East Village.
