The American Antiquarian Society Fellowships for Creative and Performing Artists

AAS in Worcester, Massachusetts collects, preserves, and makes available for study the printed record of what is now the United States of America from first European settlement through the year 1876. AAS offers visiting fellowships for historical research by creative and performing artists, writers, filmmakers, journalists, and others whose goals are to produce imaginative, non-formulaic works dealing with pre-twentieth-century American history. Work should be intended for a general audience. Fellowship projects might include performance of historical music or drama; poetry; documentary films; television programs; radio broadcasts; plays; libretti; screenplays; magazine or newspaper articles; costume designs; set designs; illustrations and other graphic arts; book designs; sculpture; paintings; other works of fine and applied art; and nonfiction works of history designed for general audiences of adults or children. Fellowships will provide recipients with opportunity for period of uninterrupted research, reading, and collegial discussion at the society, $1,200 stipend, plus travel allowance. At least 3 fellowships will be awarded for a residence of 4 weeks at the society between Jan. l and Dec. 31, 2006, with notification by Dec. 5, 2005.
