Waking Up The Nation
A group of Australians concerned about the mistreatments of asylum seekers in Australia's notorious immigration detention centres, travels around the country to visit the people incarcerated under the country's harsh immigration policies.
Waking Up The Nation takes you on their inspiring journey. On-board the colorful "Freedom Bus"
a strange mix of housewives, teens, hippies and uni students have their run-ins with overzealous cops, racist small town locals, and burly prison guards. Most importantly, this road-movie style documentary introduces you to many of the people detained in these desert-camps.
Additional video footage smuggled out of some of these prisons show chilling and heart-breaking images and prove that something is going on out in Australia's remote corners that the international community should know about.
