Special Event: Truth and the Consequences
Interest in "true crime" as a genre is exploding in the movies and on television. Who exactly owns a crime victim's story and how are the rights to such stories negotiated? As a filmmaker, what are your responsibilities and liabilities?
Where do you draw the line between storytelling and exploitation to avoid re-victimizing an already
traumatized subject?
In an unusual and timely two-hour seminar, filmmakers, crime victims, attorneys and insurance experts will address and illuminate some of these thorny issues. They'll discuss how problems arise when victims feel that depictions of their personal tragedies are distasteful or misrepresentative, plus provide basic information on clearance issues, E & O insurance, and liability concerns.
