CURRENT TV PARTNERS WITH BAVC ON
VIDEO PRODUCTION WORKSHOP
January 04, 2006 -- Current TV has teamed up with The Bay Area Video Coalition to bring a new opportunity to Bay Area filmmakers. Video Production II: Create a POD for Current is an intensive, hands-on video workshop, designed for the intermediate video producer interested in creating short-form content for Current TV-a new, independent cable and satellite TV network available in 20 million homes. The curriculum is designed to hone production skills, with the ultimate goal of creating a video that is ready for air on Current's television broadcast.
The first class will be held over four days from Thursday, January 12 to Sunday, January 15, and run from 10:00-6:00 each day. To enroll, people can call 415-558-2126 or visit bavc.org. The course costs $695.
"This is an exciting opportunity for both Bay Area filmmakers and Current TV," said Anastasia Goodstein, Current's VCC Manager. "With this workshop, local filmmakers will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Current, and we can begin to develop relationships with many of the up-and-coming local artists."
Taught by award-winning independent producer Mark Rinehart, this course expands on the basic skills taught in BAVC's signature Basic Video Production class, and takes it all to the next level. This class will give participants the opportunity to review shooting techniques, lighting for interviews, Field Audio techniques, Final Cut Pro 5, and web compression. The class will work in teams under Mark's guidance to produce short programs (known as pods) that will be submitted to Current. This is an intensive 4-day workshop during which participants will go through production planning, shooting, editing, and uploading media for the web. Class participants will also have the opportunity to meet Current staff members and be on the frontline of the VC2 movement.
Mark Rinehart in an award-winning producer, a field producer on KQED's SPARK! and one of the first VC2 (viewer created content) producers for Current TV. In addition to Current and KQED, his work has been featured on The Tonight Show.
Current TV, which launched August 1, 2005, is the first national network created by, for and with an 18-34 year-old audience. The network shows young adults what's going on in their world, in their voice. Current is also the first network in history whose programming is supplied in part by the very audience who watches it. Current's short-form programming ranges from the hottest trends in technology, fashion, music and videogames, to pressing issues such as the environment, relationships, parenting, finance, politics and spirituality. Through a partnership with Google, programming is anchored each half-hour by "GoogleCurrent," which offers news without a traditional news desk by reporting on topics that people are searching for on the web. Current launched into an initial 20 million U.S. homes on DIRECTV, Time Warner Cable and Comcast. For more information, please visit the website:
