EVC Documentary Workshop Screening

Featuring a new youth-produced documentary on drug addiction:
Looking beyond the dogma of "Just say no!", EVC youth producers document the impact of substance abuse on families and communities. Through interviews with psychologists, social workers, drug users, dealers, and policy activists, the Doc Workshop crew explores the effectiveness of the government's "War on Drugs" and presents a unique youth perspective on this widespread social problem.

EVC Mission:
The Educational Video Center (EVC) is a non-profit youth media organization dedicated to teaching documentary video as a tool for social change and as a means to develop the artistic, critical literacy, and career skills of young people. Founded in 1984, EVC is a nationally acclaimed leader in the fields of youth media and education.
EVC Programs
Documentary Workshop, a credit bearing afternoon video workshop for 60 public high school students from underserved and diverse communities across all five boroughs of New York City; YO-TV (Youth Organizers Television) a ten-month, paid internship program for graduates of EVC’s Documentary Workshop who build college preparation and media career skills as they produce a documentary for a client; Teacher Development, a program offering workshops in video, multimedia, and EVC’s teaching methodology for K-12 teachers and after-school program instructors; and Community Engagement, a program designed to maximize the impact of EVC’s library of more than 100 documentaries through screening partnerships with national school, library, and community networks.
