Film screening of “HEART OF THE CONGO | March 14, 2006 @ FIT

A documentary film screening & discussion with Action Against Hunger (ACF)

Film Screening at 6:00pm: Attend the FIT screening of Tom Weidlinger’s documentary, Heart of the Congo, which chronicles how a handful of aid workers try to help Congolese refugees who have lost everything at the end of a war.

The film focuses on a field operation of the international aid organization Action Against Hunger (ACF), whose Nutritional Centers provide aid to large numbers of women and children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Amid violence from roving militia, systemic corruption and a legacy of colonial dependence, international and Congolese aid workers struggle to help villagers build a self-sufficient future. Heart of the Congo is a story of courage, hope, perseverance, and how humanitarian aid can save lives and make a lasting difference.

Panel Discussion at 7:00pm: Following the screening, a panel discussion will take place focused on ways to bring water and food to women and children during times of crisis. Panelists include Against Against Hunger staff; Cathy Skoula, Executive Director; David Blanc, Program Director; and Dr. Desiree Koslin, Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching of Fashion Institute o Technology (FIT).
