Ever wonder how filmmakers get funding for their projects? Here is your chance to witness a "pitch session" first-hand. DocuClub's Idea Workshop is an intimate pitching session where selected filmmakers pitch their ideas to industry representatives who, in turn, provide feedback on the strength of the pitch and the potential markets for the film's subject matter.
ADMISSION:

NONMEMBERS: $10.75. Please do not RSVP. Advanced tickets for guests & the general public are strongly recommended and can be purchased by visiting:

Open Pitch – Here’s your chance!
Now our audience members will get their chance to pitch. If you have a project that you would like to pitch to our representatives from HBO, Discovery Docs, and Submarine Entertainment, you can submit your name to DocuClub when you arrive at the IFC Center (we will be in the Waverly Café). At the beginning of the program, we will draw a name from a hat and that lucky person will get to pitch at the close of the program. Bring your DVD trailer if you have one! The filmmaker will have 5 minutes for a verbal pitch and may show up to 5 minutes of a trailer. Please make sure you bring a clean copy of your DVD.
For more information, please contact Mary Kerr at 212-582-3055.
The Open Pitch is open to all – members and nonmembers!
DocuClub projects to be pitched:
The Mad Cow Investigator follows Janet Skarbek, a wife, mother and accountant from New Jersey in her new role as a self-proclaimed "Mad Cow Investigator." Janet is independently investigating the deaths in her area that she believes form a disease cluster and uncovers alarming information about meat production and government policy nationwide. Janet, a devout Christian, demonstrates courage and integrity as she propels herself into the midst of the media limelight to change the status quo on the issue of beef safety.
VideoFreex! relives the unique story of the most radical video collective of the 1970s. It is the quirky tale of nine people’s optimism and creativity, and their vision of what television could have become at a time when only three networks ruled the airwaves. The Videofreex embraced the revolutionary spirit of the time, uniting radical politics with new technology and visual experimentation. Videofreex! tells their whole story – from their unlikely genesis to their road-trip across America documenting revolutions in progress, from their struggles with communal living to their creation of the nation’s first pirate television station. Comprised of interviews with the Videofreex, stock footage and video shot by the collective, the film is a layered and funny look at a tumultuous time through the lenses of the freex themselves.
Doubletime (working title)
In the last thirty years, jump roping has moved off the sidewalk and into the gym. The sport now features astounding acrobatic tricks, lightning speed, break dance style, and international competition. Doubletime follows two of the oldest and most accomplished American teams: The Bouncing Bulldogs of Chapel Hill, NC and The Double Dutch Forces from Columbia, SC. The Bulldogs represent the best of gymnastic freestyle jumping found mostly in white suburbia while the Forces belong to the inner-city African American tradition of Double Dutch. Doubletime traces the origins of these two traditions with groovy vintage video and interviews with the “godfathers” who each founded a competitive league in the 1970’s. The film culminates at the Apollo Theater in Harlem when the Bulldogs and the Forces, who scarcely cross paths as they belong to separate leagues, decide to enter the same competition.
