Issued: Reporters Without Borders Worldwide Press Freedom Index

The annual press freedom rankings are out, and the news is not good for the United States, which has continued its steady decline from 17th (in 2002) all the way down to number 53. While media freedom continues to improve in many emerging countries like Bolivia and Ghana, wars and repressive regimes are causing steep declines else.
