New Routes to Community Health National Immigration and Media project seeks Deputy Director

New Routes to Community Health, a new national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, seeks a dynamic and experienced program manager. The program, expected to launch in February 2007, is designed to improve immigrants’ health, work life, and civic participation through the creation and support of local partnerships among immigrant organizations, media production centers, and established community institutions. Up to 10 geographically and ethnically diverse sites will receive awards of up to $220,000 over 36 months.

The deputy director will have both programmatic and administrative responsibilities, including;

--Acting as the primary liaison between the national program office and grantees;
--Managing and tracking technical assistance and grantees’ progress to ensure each grant sites’ success;
--Providing leadership in shaping the direction of the program and its activities;
--Working closely with the New Routes director to coordinate a team of staff and consultants located at multiple locations across the U.S.;
--Overseeing daily operations;
--Coordinating conference planning and logistics; and
--Representing the program to funders and the public.

Candidate should have a deep understanding and knowledge of collaboration, communication technologies, immigration issues, and the social and economic factors that influence immigrant health status. The candidate should also have experience working with and supporting diverse populations, managing and participating in virtual communities (via telephone, email, and online), and be willing to travel regularly.

Qualifications: New Routes is a unique environment that supports creativity, flexibility, and adaptability. Candidates will have all or most of the following skills and/or qualities:

--Passionate about the use of media for progressive social change;
--Knowledgeable about immigrant and health issues;
--Five to 10 years of management and administrative experience, preferably with a community-based nonprofit, media production center, and/or immigrant organization.
--Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a preference for those with facility in English and one other language; and
--A collaborative team player.

Preference will be given to candidates willing to relocate to Madison, WI, but will consider applicants unable to relocate who have experience in telecommuting and working with virtual teams.

Compensation: Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
